About this tool
Different barcode types accept different data. Code 128 encodes any text. EAN-13 and UPC-A are the retail product codes with 13 and 12 digits (the last digit is a check digit that is added automatically when you enter one fewer). Code 39 accepts capital letters and digits and is common in logistics.
Use a high contrast, leave a blank margin on both sides and print at a size your scanner can read.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I use it for real retail products?
- Retail EAN and UPC numbers must be issued by GS1. A generated barcode with a made-up number will scan but is not registered to your product.
- What is the difference between a barcode and a QR code?
- A barcode is one-dimensional and holds a short code, while a QR code is two-dimensional and holds much more data.
