How to build a campaign URL
- Paste the full destination URL, including https://.
- Enter a source (where the click comes from), a medium (the channel type) and a campaign name.
- Optionally add term (paid keyword) and content (which creative or link was clicked).
- Copy the generated URL and use it in your ad, email, post or QR code.
What the finished URL looks like
The builder appends standard utm_ query parameters to the end of your link. If your URL already has a query string, the parameters are added to it instead of replacing it.

No parameter is technically mandatory, but source, medium and campaign are the three that campaign reports in Google Analytics are built around. A link with only a source is hard to group later, so fill in all three whenever you can.
Term and content are optional. Use term for paid search keywords and content to tell two links in the same campaign apart, for example header_cta and footer_cta.
Mistakes the builder helps you avoid
- Mixed case: Facebook and facebook show up as two separate sources in reports.
- Spaces: summer sale becomes summer%20sale in the URL. Underscores stay readable.
- Overwriting existing parameters: the original query string is kept.
- Tagging internal links: never add UTM parameters to links between pages of your own site, because it starts a new session and hides the real source.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a campaign URL?
- A campaign URL is a normal web address with extra utm_ query parameters. When someone clicks it, analytics tools read the parameters and attribute the visit to the source, medium and campaign you chose.
- Is this the same as Google's Campaign URL Builder?
- It produces the same standard UTM parameters that Google Analytics reads. This tool adds automatic value cleanup, a QR code, optional history and templates, and a bulk mode for many links at once.
- Do I need an account?
- No. You can build and copy campaign URLs without signing in. An account is only needed to save history, templates and API keys.
- Can I add a UTM to a URL that already has parameters?
- Yes. Existing query parameters are preserved and the utm_ parameters are added alongside them.
