About this tool
Passwords are created with your browser's cryptographically secure random generator and never leave your device. Each selected type of character is guaranteed to appear at least once. Strength is shown as bits of entropy: 60 bits is strong against online attacks and 80 or more is very strong.
Length matters more than complexity, so a 16 to 20 character password is better than a short one with many symbols. Use a different password for every account and a password manager to store them.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is it safe to generate passwords online?
- Here, yes, because generation runs locally in your browser and nothing is transmitted. You can even disconnect from the internet before using it.
- How long should a password be?
- At least 14 characters, and longer for important accounts.
- What does "avoid ambiguous characters" do?
- It removes look-alike characters such as 0, O, 1, l and I, which helps if you must type the password by hand.
