About this tool
PNG is a lossless format with full transparency support. SVG is a vector format written as XML text, so it stays sharp at any size. Choosing between them depends on where the image will be used: PNG is common for logos, screenshots, icons and graphics with sharp edges, while SVG suits logos, icons and illustrations that must scale.
The PNG image is embedded inside an SVG container, so you get an .svg file that works wherever SVG is accepted, but the picture itself stays made of pixels. It is not converted into vector paths, so it will not stay sharp when enlarged.
The conversion uses your browser's own image engine, so nothing is uploaded and there is no file size limit beyond your device's memory. Very large images over 100 megapixels are refused to avoid freezing the page.
