About this tool
A fraction is in lowest terms when the numerator and denominator share no common factor other than 1. The tool divides both by their greatest common divisor, so 18/24 becomes 3/4.
Improper fractions are also shown as mixed numbers, so 14/4 becomes 3 1/2.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Can the denominator be negative?
- Yes, but the sign is moved to the numerator, so 3/-4 becomes -3/4.
- What if the denominator is zero?
- Division by zero is undefined, so the tool shows an error.
