How to use AAC to WAV Converter
- Drop one or more AAC files into the box.
- Wait a moment while they are decoded.
- Download each WAV, or all of them as a ZIP.
About this tool
AAC is a lossy format that sounds better than MP3 at the same bitrate and is used by Apple and streaming services. WAV stores raw samples, which is why editors, DAWs and hardware samplers prefer it as an input.
The converter decodes the AAC file with your browser and writes a 16-bit PCM WAV at the original sample rate. WAV files are much larger than AAC: a minute of stereo audio is about 10 MB.
Converting a lossy AAC file to WAV does not bring back detail that was removed when it was compressed, it only changes the container.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Why is the WAV so much bigger?
- WAV is uncompressed. Stereo CD-quality audio takes about 10 MB per minute.
- What sample rate and bit depth are used?
- The original sample rate is kept and the output is 16-bit PCM, the same as CD audio.
- Is there a size limit?
- Files up to 100 MB are accepted, and very long files need a lot of memory because they are decoded fully.
